Here we find out 10 things you didn’t know about TopSpec sponsored event rider Louisa Milne Home.
Having completed a successful double clear at Badminton with her faithful campaigner King Eider, this Scottish based rider talks fondly of their partnership. They have racked up seven four star completions and 38 top 10 placings in BE and FEI competitions over their 10 year career together.
Alongside King Eider, Louisa is quietly producing some younger event horses, a couple of which are already showing their talent on the competition scene. Let’s find out 10 unknown facts about the TopSpec sponsored talent.
- King Eider, the 17.1hh Belgian warmblood, was initially called Quattro Van De Kwakkelhoek and gets his stable name, Duck from the ‘Kwak’ association. Louisa said: “I wanted to pretend he was Irish and all good horses seemed to have simple names.”
- She almost went into a career in racing, which was her focus whilst studying at the Royal Agricultural College. “But I was riding a few advanced eventers at the time and thought I should give it a go.”
- Louisa almost made her first Badminton appearance 12 years ago, aboard her aunt Pam Ingleby’s King Berry, but a virus prevented her debut.
- Her first impression of King Eider was a “rack-thin, lanky two-year old with the most massive head.” She went on to buy him as a four-year-old.
- Just three weeks before their Badminton debut in 2013, ‘Duck’ was receiving emergency treatment in an Edinburgh vet hospital for an atrial fibrillation.
- Louisa does not have lots of trainers but learns a lot from watching other riders on the circuit.
- Louisa can’t turn ‘Duck’ out for too long as he has a habit of jumping out and escaping.
- Besides King Eider, Louisa has Yorkie’s Delight competing at Advanced.
- Louisa’s Badminton dreams began in her Pony Club days when “charging around with friends at the Fife Hunt branch.”
- Her yard is at maximum capacity with 11 horses.
Louisa feeds all her horses on TopSpec and is delighted with the results. She says: "I have been feeding TopSpec since 2003, the horses love it and the team at TopSpec are fantastic at advising on the best products to suit each horses needs, so that they look great and are able to perform at the highest levels".
