Are you looking to breed a pony that will one day be ridden by the junior members of your family? If so, then the pony stallion that you choose to sire your foal needs serious consideration.

NWPCS pony stallion Cyden Oostings Amigo is everything you would want in a pony, his stunning looks and fantastic paces are equally matched by a temperament to die for.

Here Lara tells us about the pony stallion that has now become a much loved member of the Dyson family.

How did you come across Amigo originally?

When I  went over to Holland to look at Cadans, Amigo was at the same stables and when I looked over his stable door I loved the look of him. Although he was weak because he was only three, he was gorgeous,  black with four white socks, and he came straight over and nuzzled into me. I asked to see him on the lunge and then I was smitten, he was a lovely loose flowing mover and so polite for his age.

How long have you owned him?

About a month after coming home, my brother and I discussed Amigo in detail and thought he might be brilliant with a few years work for his children, so about four or five months later Amigo came over to me to break in, train and sell if we wanted to. Three years later he is now very much a part of the family. He is ridden by my six-year-old nephew but he is also out competing at Medium level with scores now up to 70%.

Where he is currently at in terms of competition level?

He is currently competing and training at Medium / FEI level.

What are your hopes for the future?

I would love to see him do his first international competition this year and aim him for the FEI pony teams in 2017/2018.

How old are his young-stock, and do you have any?

He has around 15 youngstock on the ground in Holland, unfortunately we do not have a pony mare, but I am always on the lookout for a partner to do this with, so if there is anyone out there with a pony broodmare with good breeding who would be interested in using Amigo and work together to produce the foal, please get in touch.

What is he like to handle and deal with?

He is a total dream, a proper child’s pony even though he is a stallion. He doesn't need to be dealt with like a stallion except the obvious things like not letting him touch noses with a mare or getting too close behind another horse when you are on him but he really is a dream pony. He lives out with my other stallion Bodyguard in fields close together in the summer!!

What makes him special?

His loveable character, he is very clever at getting his headcollar off, even if it’s done up really tight. He does this in the lorry but then just stands as though he has one on, cheeky boy! He is also very clever at doing this with his bridle on and has been known to shake his bridle off when being ridden!

What is his character like?

Loveable and cheeky, he never really does anything wrong he is just a lot of fun. He likes to lick you and will move your jumper or coat to get to skin!

What are some of his major results?

He qualified for Prelim Nationals aged five and qualified for the Elementary Open Nationals aged six, he has also won many classes at the under 25s Championships too.

What is he like to ride?

He rides a lot more like a horse than a pony, loves hacking as well as jumping so he has a really varied schedule of work.

What is his weekly schedule?

It changes every week but generally he is schooled 3/4 times a week, hacked once or twice and does pole work at least once a week.

How long will he stand at stud?

This year Amigo's semen is frozen unless arranged with Cyden dressage then fresh / chilled can be arranged.

Does he throw a particular type?

At the moment black with white socks matching him! He has produced a couple of 15.1hh horses, who the breeders are saying are stunning and are over the moon with as they were looking to breed a smaller horse and hoped using a pony stallion would achieve this to their 16 hh mare.

Cyden Bodyguard Moorland will be standing at Stallion AI Services for a limited period in June for fresh and chilled semen. Frozen semen is available all year round from Cyden Bodyguard Moorland, Cyden Oostings Amigo and Cyden Cadans M.
