There were a vast amount of entries in the Pony British Novice Championship Final at the British Showjumping National Championships taking place at the NAEC Stoneleigh, Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire this week. With 96 starters and just 29 who made it through to the jump off, the pressure was high for these young riders.
The course proved challenging for many but it was 15 year old Lauren Roach from Maidenhead who held her nerve and flew around the jump off in the fastest time taking the win with Kerry Grimster’s five year old mare, Heartbreaker Express II.
“Heartbreaker is usually ridden by Oliver Tuff who is currently at the Europeans, however, I rode Heartbreaker for about a year before Oliver took him over. Oliver has qualified her [Heartbreaker] in the Newcomers at HOYS this year; she’s very careful and is very good at her job.”
Lauren has won the British Novice at BSNC for the past two years, making this her third Pony British Novice title; last year Lauren took the spoils riding Renkham Starlight, also owned by Kerry Grimster and in 2015 she rode the only double clear in the class riding Cool Echo.
