Alltech are once again delighted to be supporting the Hartpury Student Conference, this year to be held at Hartpury College on Wednesday May 3, 2017.

Now in its seventh successful year, this annual conference is aimed at both undergraduate and postgraduate students who are interested in research to enhance performance in equestrian athletes, with the opportunity to submit findings from their own research.

Students are invited to submit research papers within the field of Equestrian Science including the broad themes of equine behaviour and welfare; equine business management; breeding, genetics and stud management; equine health and therapy; equine nutrition and feeding and rider performance.

Successful students will have the opportunity to deliver a verbal presentation on their findings to a conference audience, with a dedicated question time afterwards.

Guest presentations will be delivered by key note speakers, Dr Lisa Boden from the University of Glasgow and Professor Renate Weller from the Royal Veterinary College.

Dr Lisa Boden is a veterinary epidemiologist with a background in medical law and ethics. Her research focuses on the delivery of evidence to support animal health and welfare policy in Scotland. Based at the veterinary school at the University of Glasgow, Dr Boden works for a Scottish Government Centre of Expertise in Animal Disease Outbreaks called EPIC. EPIC is a consortium project comprising seven universities and institutes and tasked with providing epidemiological advice to Scottish Government policy makers in the event of an animal disease emergency.

After graduating from the University of Munich, Professor Renate Weller became a senior clinical research scholar in large animal diagnostic imaging at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC). Upon joining the Institute of Veterinary Anatomy in Munich, she completed her Dr.Vet.Med. thesis on comparison of different imaging modalities in the diagnosis of head disorders in the horse. Back at the RVC, her PhD was in the Structure and Motion Laboratory investigating the effect of conformation on locomotor biomechanics in the horse. Since 2005 Renate has been employed at the RVC dividing her time between clinical work in large animal diagnostic imaging and research in imaging, locomotor biomechanics and veterinary education.

Around 120 delegates attend the conference annually, representing more than ten colleges and universities from the UK, and over recent years, the conference has been opened up to submissions from a wider international student body, creating a more global event.

Alltech will provide prizes to be awarded to the best presentations within each category.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students to share their research and gain some relevant experience before launching their own careers within the equine industry.

The Lifeforce Range of all-natural, daily digestive aid supplements from Alltech is designed to benefit horses of every stage of life, from breeding stock to pleasure and performance animals.
