Para-dressage rider, Bert Sheffield, riding for Team Canada, was flying the Maple Leaf flag high at the recent CPEDI2* at Bishop Burton in East Yorkshire, winning the team and individual Grade 3 test, achieving the highest scores across all the grades in the set tests, on her own horse, Wonderboy.
Bert, who is based in South Lincolnshire, also took second place in the Freestyle and was only beaten by .07% in the closely contested competition.
It was certainly the Canadians’ competition with Team Canada also taking the crown in all the Grade 2 tests including the Freestyle; Ashley Gowanlock winning the Grade 1b set tests, and Lauren Barwick being the highest scoring foreign rider.
Said a delighted Bert: “Being a member of the Canadian European Team has been an amazing experience and I have loved every minute of it.”
“I have learnt a lot and it has also been a great experience for the horses too.”
Bert, who has dual nationality, chose to ride for Canada as she felt there would be more opportunities on offer for her to ride in international competitions. She continues to be based in the UK and has already qualified for the World Equestrian Games (WEG) 2014, which will take place in Normandy, France.
