Plumpton College in East Sussex has recently introduced a new degree
course. This is a Level 6 top-up year
for those students who have successfully completed a FdSc in Animal Science or
equivalent and is either one year full-time, or up to 6 years part-time.
The course has been developed to satisfy the increasing demand for those
seeking employment opportunities in the developing animal behaviour and welfare
industry.
It explores the use of behaviour as an indicator of animal welfare and
well-being, as well as focusing on welfare legislation and the drivers that
change the human perception of animals. Students
will also study Animal Welfare and the Law, Animal Cognition in Behavioural
Management, Anthrozoology and choose from a variety of optional modules
including Wild Animals in Captivity, Domestication and Behavioural Development
of Farm and Companion Animals, Applied Ecology and Conservation, Neuroscience
and Parasitology.
