Just looking at a pair of shoes doesn’t tell you if they are comfortable for walking and running, so how can you be sure your saddle fits well, ensuring your horse can work comfortably? Trained saddle fitters will evaluate your saddle and make sure it fits correctly – on the day they see the horse.
But horses can change shape very rapidly, especially at this time of year, with spring grass and changing work load. Even a perfectly-fitted saddle can become uncomfortable in a matter of weeks, inhibiting your horse’s performance, so regular checks are essential.
After three years of research and development, Wow Saddles have just launched an industry ‘first’ – a truly innovative Saddle Gauge. It will tell you which of the 567 fitting permutations from their modular saddles is right for the horse.
Managing Director and Designer of the gauge, David Kempsell said
“Even someone non-horsey could watch the instructional video available at http://bit.ly/wowsaddlegauge and use the gauge to come up with the correct specification for their Wow saddle. This gauge takes subjectivity out of the process and gives the correct balanced solution every time.”
If you already own a Wow saddle, you or your fitter can set the gauge to your current set-up, and use it regularly to check the specification is still correct for your horse. If it shows the saddle no longer fits, then the gauge can be used to work out the changes needed. Many riders under-estimate how quickly and how much their horse can change shape: this tool helps ensure the fit is correctly maintained, to the benefit of your horse’s comfort, welfare and performance.
