BRING YOUR DOGS TO ST JAMES’S PLACE BARBURY!
For many people, being able to bring their dogs to horse trials is an essential part of a good day out. At St James’s Place Barbury Horse Trials (5-8 July), there’s more to do for dogs – and their owners – than ever before.
Members of the public and their dogs will be able to have a go at dog agility, organised by professional dog agility trainer and handler Anthony Clarke of Lechlade K9 Centre. Anthony is one of the country’s top trainers and competitors, and recently won a silver medal at the World Agility Open Championships in The Netherlands.
Anthony will also be demonstrating his skills with his top dog, Protest, in the main arena on Sunday (8 July), and a team of top event riders will take part in a special “celebrity” dog agility contest! There will also be a fun dog show, with prizes sponsored by Autarky.
Have-a-go dog agility will cost £1 per round.
Barbury’s Event Director Martyn Johnson said: “We welcome well-behaved dogs and their owners to St James’s Place Barbury. Anthony Clarke’s skills with his amazing dog, Protest, are incredible and their demonstration on Sunday is not to be missed. Dog agility is great fun and I can’t wait to see some of our top event riders having a go at it with their own dogs!”
Everyone is reminded to keep their dogs on short leads at all times, and to make sure that they have brought water and a drinking bowl with them.
Dog agility is just one of the activities that run alongside the first-class equestrian sport at St James’s Place Barbury.
Saturday (7 July), the highly popular JCB Champions’ Challenge takes centre stage in the main arena. Top eventers battle it out against the country’s best National Hunt jockeys – including current champion jockey Richard Johnson – in a relay race over fences.
And on Sunday (8 July) we welcome the world-famous Shetland Grand National to Barbury for the first time.
There is also a great new “kids zone” full of children’s entertainment, excellent shopping, a fully licensed bar and a wide range of delicious food options available.
