LOOKING for a day out with a difference this summer for all the family!
If you are an avid equestrian fan wanting to get your horsey fix but your partners and children want something more adventurous Equifest has so much to offer to keep everyone entertained throughout the day.
As well as the new Demonstration Arena, featuring the exciting Dog and Duck display, around the showground there’s also a host of activities running in the indoor arena and on the plaza.
The 3Sixty Bicycle Stunt Team is brilliant to watch as they put on breath-taking dare devil action that will keep everyone on the edge and wanting more.
The team’s great skill and expertise is both entertaining and educational and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and find out more about how to improve your mountain biking skills.
Another action packed sport that has quickly gained massive popularity is Horseboarding which makes its debut at Equifest.
Horseboarding is an equestrian sport in which a rider on a horse tows a board rider on a mountain board.
The board rider is towed by holding a handle attached to a rope no longer than 10 metres length, which itself is attached to the horse's saddle by means of a small harness, with a quick release mechanism for safety.
Horseboarding is a multi-discipline sport, which tests the skills of both the horse rider and the board rider.
The horse rider must be in total control of their horse, in order to maintain correct speed, position and acceleration to keep the board rider stable on his board.
The board rider must be able to constantly read and interpret the speed and position of the horse in order to keep himself on the board. Constant communication between the horse rider and the board rider is an essential part of the sport.
If it’s something a bit quieter you are looking for why not call in to see Equipilates instructor Chris Sharpe.
After many riding falls and one more serious horse related accident, when Chris discovered Pilates around 10 years ago she really appreciated the effect it had on her body. Chris first qualified as a level 2 Pilates teacher in 2006 and level 3 CYQ Pilates teacher in 2007.
Her vision has always been to help horse riders to improve their riding by using Pilates. Chris was extremely pleased with the effect that Equipilates™ had on her own riding and in particular her balance, she believes it is applicable to all riders, not only dressage riders, but also for jumping and general riding and especially for the older rider.
Chris’s most important aim for the future is to continue to ride horses for the rest of her life and believes that she can help others to do the same using the Equipilates™ techniques.
Back to the fast and furious and for those who enjoy a real team sport, make sure you catch up with the Horseball demonstration.
Horseball is a game played on horseback where a ball is handled and points are scored by shooting it through a high net.
The sport is like a combination of polo, rugby and basketball – what more could you want!
