This September, University Centre Bishop Burton (UCBB) and Riseholme College welcomed a new cohort of Equine degree students. Although this year may look a little different through a blended learning approach, students are still able to get a full and rich experience, including socially distanced practical sessions in our fantastic facilities.
The equestrian facilities at UCBB, just outside of Beverley East Yorkshire, are renowned as being among the very best in the country, making it the ideal location to study an Equine degree course. Riseholme College, set in glorious Lincolnshire countryside has an outstanding reputation for the quality of its provision and has undergone a complete refurbishment of all its arenas and key facilities. This includes a dedicated research yard for students studying an Equine degree.
Offering a range of programmes from Equine Therapy and Rehabilitation to Business Management for the Equine Industry, there are a broad range of programmes to choose from, taught in world-class arenas and state-of-the-art training facilities.
Typically, students will have up to 16 contact hours teaching time per week and you also have the opportunity to get involved in a variety of work placements, trips and activities. These include a work-based learning component on excellent equine commercial facilities, gaining you a minimum of 80 hours hands-on practical experience. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in events and clubs throughout your time with us, including the Equine Performance Conference, riding club and a free training qualification from the British Horse Society.
Jennifer Williams who studied a BSc in Equine Therapy and Rehabilitation spoke passionately about her time studying at UCBB:
“For me there was no better choice than UCBB: from the amazing therapy facilities to the team of talented lecturers who have industry experience”.
Upon completing her degree, Jennifer secured her dream role as a Veterinary Physiotherapist.
The Equine Centre at Bishop Burton hosts a number of high-profile events every year including, British Dressage Northern Winter Regionals, FEI European Championships for Ponies and the British Eventing’s ‘Festival of Youth’ Under 18’s Championships, 2020-2024. The Arena has played host to the GBR Equestrian Team as a training facility, and welcomes many big names in the riding industry including Ben Atkinson, horsemaster at Atkinson Action Horses, and anatomy specialist Gillian Higgins, from Horses Inside Out.
Following the successful launch of our brand-new 3D immersive campus tour at our brand new virtual open event earlier this month, you can now see these amazing facilities for yourself, all from the comfort of your own home. Simply book onto our next Virtual Open Event taking place on Saturday 28 November.
