British Riding Clubs Fibre-Beet Festival of the Horse Championships 2018

The BRC Fibre-Beet Festival of the Horse Championships 2018 took place over the weekend 19-20 May 2018 at Aston-le-Walls Equestrian Centre in Northamptonshire.

Fibre-Beet is a new sponsor for this event and Hatti I’Anson from British Horse Feeds (producers of Fibre-Beet) was on hand each day, offering advice and information on their range of horse feeds and supplements, and to present the wonderful prizes, rosettes and sashes to all the winners.

Hatti I’Anson of British Horse Feeds said: “We were delighted to support the Fibre-Beet Festival of the Horse Championships. It was a fantastic weekend with top competition, horses that looked fit and well and competitors that were having great fun and wanting to learn more about Fibre-Beet and Speedi-Beet.”

Over 600 competitors, both senior and junior, teams and individuals, travelled the length and breadth of the UK to take part in a range of championship classes, which included the Festival Challenges at 100, 90 and 80cms and Combined Training, featuring both a dressage test (from prelim to novice level) and a show jumping round (75cms to 85cms).

Aston-le-Walls was bathed in glorious sunshine all weekend, spectators and competitors alike were treated to some truly exciting Challenge championship rounds. With the riders tackling first a bright, imaginative and twisty course of show jumps, leading directly out onto the testing, cross-country course, where double clear rounds inside the time proved hard to gain. The winning teams and individuals came from across the whole of the UK. However two separate junior teams from Area 14 (Eastern Counties) lifted both the Challenge 100 and Challenge 90 Championship classes, Oliver Kidner riding first Freddy in the Challenge 100, then French Fort Daisy in the Challenge 90, featured strongly in both teams.

Said Oliver: “Both ponies were fast today, I can’t believe that both our Area 14 teams have won!”

A senior team from Area 2, in the North East, posted a win in the Senior Challenge 100, finishing on a great combined score of just 6.4 penalty points; the team included three members from Darlington & District RC, who were also on last year’s winning team.

“This has been an amazing weekend, to be on the winning team for a second year running and to finish with just 0.8 penalties, I’m thrilled with my horse Double You Aramis.” Said Jill Horseman.

The Combined Training Championships again saw large numbers of competitors who first rode their dressage test, followed later by a flowing round of show jumps, with both results combined to produce the final score. A team from Cornwall TREC Group in Area 19 lifted the senior title, with a team score of 10. Atherstone & District RC in Area 5 won the junior Championship on a team score of 11 points.

Said Rachael Hollely-Thompson, BRC Manager: “A wonderful weekend, with some exciting Challenge rounds to watch, contrasted by the tranquility of the dressage and show jumping arenas. Aston-le-Walls Equestrian Centre provides the ideal venue to host this type event made even better this year by the fabulous weather. A huge thank you to over 200 volunteers who gave up their time to enable us to run such a special event.”

“We had a lovely time fence judging at Aston-le-Walls today. BRC always look after us so well and you are such a friendly bunch. The weather played its part and we were impressed that so many riders were offering their mounts lots of love and pats on the way round. All in all it was a rather idyllic way to spend a Sunday!” Said BRC Volunteers Lesley & Martin Reeves.
