There are a handful of people in the world who can truly capture the essence of horsemanship - the friendship, the connection, the ability to train without using dominance and ultimately, the beautiful bond between horse and owner. United States based Farah DeJohnette is one of these talented people and in 2014 she will be bringing these skills to the UK.
No matter what discipline you ride in Farah has one goal in her teaching and that is to develop a connection between horse and rider in order to coherently and sensitively build a foundation of communication between animal and human. Unlike conventional ‘natural horsemanship’ approaches, Farah does not use any round pens or rope halters – her techniques are purely and simply true natural horsemanship and based on trust and relationship building between horse and rider.
Farah has over 20 years of equestrian experience, from training and competing youngstock, to working with well known show jumpers, dressage riders and event riders around the world. Influenced heavily by many legendary horsemen and women, Farah sees herself as a self-professed student of the horse and has created her own methods of developing partnerships with the horses she works with.
Using a unique progressive training framework, called Liberty-Line-Mounted, Farah now offers training to inspire others to build connection and trust with their equines, without taking away the driving force behind equestrianism… fun! Not simply just another ‘natural horsemanship’ advocate, Farah uses a blend of dressage foundation training, balanced seat riding, Yoga principles, natural horsemanship and fun when working with horse and rider! The overall goal is to create a desire in horses to participate happily, willingly and confidently with their owner in whatever discipline they choose.
“Horses are my life,” Farah admits. “The horse is our greatest teacher and I continue to learn from them every day of my life. My goal is to facilitate and support each of my students and their horses to keep them learning and ensure pleasure and enjoyment throughout. I believe that if the connection between horse and rider is established there is very little that cannot be achieved together."
Not defined by just one training method, Farah’s open approach to horsemanship enables her to adapt to different styles of riding and training, and work with different types of breeds, temperaments, disciplines and levels. Her training works with what the horse offers and exercises are structured into games whenever possible to keep things simple, fun and enjoyable.
UK equestrians can now benefit from Farah’s unique and innovative training methods as she visits the UK from 19 – 24 June 2014 to run clinics and demonstrations. Whether bringing your own horse, or spectating on foot, learning with Farah is awe-inspiring, enjoyable and exciting.
