HOYS announce the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery Musical Drive as headline display for 2024.
This historic edition of Horse of the Year Show invites patrons to reminisce on the rich heritage of the show, and the Musical Ride of the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery is a spectacle that holds fond memories for many. This captivating performance honours the bravery and importance of soldiers both human and equine, and was first performed at HOYS 71 years ago in 1953.
The Troop, founded by King George VI in 1947, consists of fully combat trained soldiers who, amongst other duties, fire the Royal Salutes to mark occasions of State such as The King’s Birthday Parade. When horse-drawn artillery became obsolete, the King requested that a single troop remain to act as a ceremonial unit which eventually evolved into the beloved display we see today.
Spectators are promised a thrilling production incorporating “Thirteen Pounders”, the explosive one-tonne heavy field guns used after the Boer War. Heart-racing manoeuvres such as the Scissors, a criss-cross movement performed at a gallop, and the electrifying Battery Charge, will thrill young and old alike.
The Musical Ride of the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery will be held in the Andrews Bowen International Arena on each day of the show, and is a spectacular display that is not to be missed.
