Reminiscent of the format at the World Equestrian Games, the country’s leading carriage drivers will compete alongside major names in the sport of eventing at this year’s Osberton International.

Following the huge success of a regional driving trials in 2019, the team at organiser’s Bede Events are pulling out all the stops to bring top-level sport to the Osberton Estate from October 1 to 3, 2021.

Sponsored by Bennington Carriages there will be classes for single, pairs and teams with the competition one of just five national event planned for the year.

And one of the legends in the sport Dick Lane, will be returning to the Nottinghamshire estate after enjoying the competition, fun and camaraderie when he took part two years ago.

Said Dick: “Everyone competing in 2019 really enjoyed having carriage driving running as the same time as the three-day-event and we were made very welcome by the riders.

“Both sports go very well together and the Osberton Estate is a fantastic venue for carriage driving.

“After the initial competition two years ago we put forward a few ideas that could be developed and we are all excited about the new water complex and changes that organiser Stuart Buntine is planning.

“It was also great fun to get together in the evening and share the day’s experiences across the two disciplines recounting the day’s highs and lows.”

Dick will be competing his team of Lipizzaners that he has had together for the last four years having being a fan of the breed for carriage driving since the millennium.

Added Dick: “I started with Lipizzaners about 20 years ago, they make fantastic carriage driving horses are very intelligent and also for such a big horse they are very nimble and athletic.”

Dick was Reserve National Carriage Driving Champion in 2019 and has represented Great Britain at Royal Windsor as well as being the British Carriage Driving Points League Winner on many occasions.
