There is no denying the incredible Green family resemblance when you meet Lissa. The infectious giggle and total passion when talking horses shines through. With an extremely polite and charming personality that is completely her own, 2014 is shaping up to be the year to put her in the spotlight.
At just 25 years old Lissa is a refreshing, down to earth, dedicated sportswoman now based in Rockley near Marlborough, she is training and producing her own string of horses. She has six boxes and runs the yard herself.
By her own admission her greatest influences have been her father and mother, David and Lucinda. David a dual gold medalist and Lucinda, six time Badminton winner and a legendary cross country rider who is renowned for seeing it all from the horse’s point of view. Lissa has been riding since she was born, perched daily on the front of Mum or Dad’s saddle, it is no wonder that her talent and enthusiasm is now being noticed on the circuit. Although following in her parent’s footsteps, Lissa is determined to make it standing firmly on her own two feet. Working as a team like any other family, mum simply now helps on the ground, giving advice with the babies and older horses and of course is a super groom!
-Following University and a dabble at telesales Lissa has high ambitions including all the big four star events and of course representing her country, but she remains realistic and is prepared to work hard to achieve her goals.
Her current string ranges from BE100 up to Advanced with horses Skorpio and Glencrue Destiny. Lissa has experienced success at various events already this season with mares Daisyonfire and Boleybawn Free being consistent with placings. Glencrue Destiny and Skorpio stormed round the cross country at Belton CIC ** and both earned themselves clears.
Lissa trains with GB Young Rider, Junior and Pony Show-Jumping Trainer Corinne Bracken for jumping, and also occasionally with Pat Burgess who taught her mother. Lissa has also spent a few weeks intensive training with Bettina Hoy in Germany and now trains with New Zealander Lisa White in the dressage.
Lissa is now keen to build on the commercial side of her business too and realises that working with owners, sponsors and supporters is vital to anyone’s success. Lissa knows how important nutrition is and how strong the link between fitness and the energy produced by the right diet contributes to success. When she started looking for support from a feed company The Pure Feed Company were exactly the right fit.
“My horses are super fit” said Lissa. “I gallop them all and do interval training every four days, even the babies do their three lots of three minutes. They get more of an idea of what their life is about. I’m a big fan of hacking, I do a lot of hacking, sustainable energy is vital but without making them too hot and silly they must be focused to event. The Pure Feed system ticks all the boxes with their range, I am delighted to be working with them”.
John Calder of Pure Feed said “We are delighted to support Lissa and stand beside her as she carves out her eventing career”
