New Zealand and Pure Feed Partner Lizzie Brown secured the win of her career at Boekelo CCI3* yesterday. Lizzie and Henton Attorney General (owned by Tessa Grant and Lizzie) topped a quality field of riders, finishing 4 penalty points in front of 2nd placed Germany’s Peter Thomsen, with fellow NZ rider Sir Mark Todd in 3rd.
The 25 year old was sitting in 2nd place after dressage with a personal best score of 33.4. “We got through the dressage, and I even shocked myself with the score, then focused on the cross country fence by fence.”
After a successful cross country round with only 2.4 time faults, Lizzie moved into leading position closely followed by Michael Jung and Ingrid Klimke, both recent Individual Gold & Silver European Medallists.
Lizzie kept her cool going into the final phase with two poles in hand knowing that Henton Attorney General also known as ‘Frank’ would deliver in the ring.
“I was pretty confident going into the showjumping because Frank is a very good showjumper. When we jumped the second to last fence of the last treble everyone cheered because we had two fences in hand but then I freaked out and had the last down!”
It has been a rollercoaster of a time for the partnership since moving to the UK, but they showed their form with a win in the 2* at Blair Castle last month.
“He was in such good form when I left New Zealand but been a really tough two years since, so this is a real comeback. He is such a talented horse and when he is feeling as good as he is now he proves he is one of the best . . . I have always believed that.”
The Pure Feed Company are proud to support Lizzie and her horses. Managing Director, John Calder congratulated the pair, ‘We are totally delighted for Lizzie and Frank to win this International event and it is fantastic to hear that her horse was still full of running at the end of a long weekend!’
