Ashford Farm CSI**** Bolesworth International owner and show president Nina Barbour had cause for celebration on the eve of this year's four-day event.

Opening competitive action in the grounds of Bolesworth Castle on Wednesday afternoon saw Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse four and five-year-old qualifier classes take place.

And it was a horse from the Harthill Stud, which is owned by Nina and her business partner - international event rider Oliver Townend - that came up trumps in the four-year-old section.

Marks totalling 100 are awarded by the judges for dressage work, jumping, conformation and type, plus suitability and potential as a prospective event horse, and the Harthill Stud's Harthill Jaguar proved a clear winner, booking a place in the annual young event horse championship at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials later this year.

Ridden by Sam Wall, Harthill Jaguar's total score of 81 marks included the highest dressage mark of 28 from a possible 30 as Bolesworth staged the latest in a number of countrywide qualifiers.

Top honours in the five-year-old section went to Ballyhale Key, ridden by Dee Hankey, on a score of 87, while they will be joined at Burghley in September by runner-up Galvanised, the ride of Hannah Bate.
