Over 370 pupils (aged 7 – 18yrs) representing 114 schools from 37 counties at the above championships 17 – 18th April 2015.
In the preliminary rounds, Show jumping classes were aimed from mini (70cm) to open level 1.05m),
enabling schools to select the appropriate height for their riders to compete at. Only the winning
team & individual from each county qualifier was entitled to represent both their school & county at
the final.
Dressage teams were at preliminary level and individual tests also included novice level.
The county show jumping championships have been running for a few years as a class at the NSEA
National Championships. However, it was felt that once dressage was also included, it would be
good to give the county finals a championship weekend of their own where a large number of
counties could compete against each other for the inter?county championship.
NSEA Chairman Jill Barker ‘ it was great to see so many counties represented at championship level A
number of new schools are now fielding riding squads from Grass roots up to senior school
championship level and a number of riders have gone on to represent their country at European
level including Sam Ecroyd, Chelsea Pearce, etc. Unlike most other school sports, riding is pretty
unique as it enables boys & girls to compete together on an even footing and against different ages.
It is great for interaction on a number of levels and we hope to inspire youngsters to compete long
after they leave school’
