Queen Mary’s Pupil, Ella Kay Secures Her Biggest National Win at Horse of the Year Show
Queen Mary's pupil, Ella Kay, aged 12, celebrated her most significant victory to date as she claimed the Equine Rescues Services 128cm Championship at the prestigious Horse of the Year Show, riding the remarkable Red Alert III.
As well as studying at Queen Mary’s School, between Ripon and Thirsk, Ella and her horse Red Alert III have had a very busy and successful year. They have already marked their dominance in the sport by winning the Gold League and the National 128cm Championship at the British Showjumping National Championships earlier in the year. However, their triumph at the Horse of the Year Show is undoubtedly their crowning glory.
The competition saw twenty-one talented riders enter the iconic arena, facing a challenging 1.15m track designed by the renowned Ben Townley. The competition was fierce. In the jump off Ella displayed unwavering confidence and exceptional riding skills.
Reflecting on her remarkable performance, Ella said, "I didn't realise I was going that tight until I did it. Red Alert knows her job so well; she really wants to do it and win as well. It has been an amazing year, a dream come true. Thank you to everyone who has supported me."
Another two Queen Mary’s pupils, Christina and Nya, competed at the Horse of the Year Show. They rode magnificent rounds and Christina came 4th in her 138cm class.
Carole Cameron, Head at Queen Mary’s School is delighted: “Congratulations to Ella for her monumental win at HOYS. The dedication and hard work that it has taken to win three national titles this year displays skills of a true Queen Mary’s pupil. We are so proud of all three of our HOYS riders. To have such a large representation at this prestigious event is a great achievement for everyone involved. They are excellent role models to the other pupils who ride on the Queen Mary’s Riding Teams and have lessons at the Equestrian Centre.”
Ella's impressive victory at the Equine Rescues Services 128cm Championship at the Horse of the Year Show marks a significant milestone in her equestrian career. Her talent, dedication, and the remarkable partnership with Red Alert III have truly shone on this grand stage.
