TICKETS FOR THE EDWARDIAN PAGEANT AT ROYAL WINDSOR HORSE SHOW GO ON SALE
The team behind the BAFTA award-winning ‘HM The Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration’ has announced that tickets for The Edwardian Pageant at Royal Windsor Horse Show will go on sale to the public on Tuesday 29 October 2019.
The Edwardian Pageant will take place from Thursday 14 to Saturday 16 May 2020 and will build on the success of The Victorian Pageant held during Royal Windsor Horse Show in 2019. Spectators will be taken on a captivating journey through the Edwardian era. Horses and performers from around the world will come together in the private grounds of Windsor Castle to celebrate this significant period in British history and create an equestrian, musical, military and motoring spectacular.
The 90-minute extravaganza will be narrated by Alan Titchmarsh MBE and guests will enjoy displays from around the world, including The Oman Royal Cavalry, La Garde Républicaine from France, Indian Dhol Drummers and, from closer to home, crowd favourites Massed Pipes and Drums, The Musical Drive of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery and The Musical Ride of The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment. Commemorating the grandeur of Edwardian military might the world over, the strong equestrian theme in these displays is testament to the pivotal role of the horse in both military and ceremonial duties during the Edwardian era. In addition, a parade of veteran motorcars will reflect King Edward VII’s early adoption of the combustion engine.
The 43-strong National Symphony Orchestra will accompany each performance with a rousing programme of music from the turn of the century, a time which saw composers such as Parry and Vaughan Williams at the height of their creative powers. The music of Sir Edward Elgar will be featured in a scene that celebrates the Promenade Concerts, which began in 1895 and came to the fore during King Edward VII’s reign. The epitome of Englishness, some of Elgar’s most famous works were composed during the Edwardian era, including the Pomp and Circumstance Marches and the Enigma Variations.
Show Director, Simon Brooks-Ward OBE said: “We are delighted to be continuing The Pageant Series with the Edwardian era. It is a time in British history that carried landmark moments in politics, philosophy and pastimes, so we are really looking forward to bringing it back to life through an exhibition of spectacular performances.”
The Edwardian Pageant joins ‘The Pageant Series’ at Royal Windsor Horse Show, which over the years has produced dazzling displays, including The Victorian Pageant (2019), HM The Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration (2016), The Diamond Jubilee Pageant (2012), Windsor Castle Royal Tattoo (2008 to 2011) and All The Queen’s Horses (2002).
Alan Titchmarsh MBE commented: “I can’t wait to be involved in The Edwardian Pageant next year. It feels like the Series is getting bigger each year, and Simon and his team do an incredible job organising such unique and innovative shows. You really don’t see anything like it anywhere else, and it is fantastic to be back in that most unique setting of Her Majesty’s beautiful private grounds.”
