With 24 sections running over the first two days at Shelford British Eventing and a further 12 unaffiliated classes taking place on the third and final day it was a busy and sun-baked event for the team at BEDE.
More than 750 entries were catered for over the three days with Stuart Buntine’s cross-country courses receiving much praise from competitors over the Nottinghamshire parkland.
Said Stuart: “Wow what a fantastic three days. A big thankyou to our many volunteers and sponsors who help to make our events run and all the support from competitors. It was really was a busy but brilliant event.”
Sections included BE80T through to BE100 Open, BE100 Under 18 and a special five-year-old section which attracted entries from leading names Andrew Heffernan, Ben and Sarah Way and Ros Canter.

In a closely fought section it was Sarah Way and Ditchford Explorer who ran out the winners finishing on their dressage score of 26.5 after a solid clear in the show jumping and cross-country.
Leading after the dressage, Ros Canter and DHI Rock Dancer’s pole down in the show jumping proved costly as they claimed second place on 27.8.
Sarah’s husband Ben came home in third with the attractive World on Fire, also finishing on their dressage score while Georgie Frow and Milton’s Star took fourth, a pole falling in the show jumping also proving expensive.
At the end of the day on a sun-baked Bank Holiday Monday, Ros Canter was in the ribbons once again when heading the final BE100 section on Destiny. Again leading after the dressage on a superlative score of 22, the Lincolnshire based rider then went clear show jumping and on the cross-country.

The second day of Shelford also proved a busy one for Paul Burgess and his team when heading Section U. One of seven BE100 sections held over the event, Paul secured the leader board with Noble Son, a six-year-old bay gelding by Noble Warrior. Paul also took second in BE100, Section S on Colandro Rivie owned by Gaynor Green.

Section T, BE100 fell to John-Paul Sheffield and the Carole Kirkham owned, Shannondale Aero, the talented seven-year-old, bay gelding heading off Nina De Haas and Enola who finished in the runner-up spot.
