The National Horse Racing Museum is launching a summer of great days out for horse fans. What’s more, the events are all free to watch with general admission to the museum, where an annual pass costs adults just £15 and under-16s go free.

Shetland ponies will be put through their paces by their young jockeys on the mini steeplechase course (above) at the Peter O’Sullevan Arena on 23 July. There will also be demonstrations and the chance to meet the Shetlands.

Sparks will fly in the museum’s forge on 12 August when farriers and their apprentices show off their skills. They’ll be attempting to make horseshoes in just 10 minutes at the Annual Farrier Competition.

The British Horseball Association and Retraining of Racehorses will host the first ever RoR Racing to Horseball Cup in the Peter O’Sullevan Arena on 2 September. It’s a chance to see this fast-growing sport which ex-racehorses are being retrained to compete in because of their natural speed, agility and experience of running with the crowd.

England's oldest workhorse, the Suffolk Punch, will be the star of the show at the Peter O’Sullevan Arena on 1 October. This rare breed of heavy horse will be putting on displays and there will be a chance to meet them, too.
