A sore bottom is jokingly synonymous with riding horses , but the truth is that many riders both amateur and professional , from all disciplines, suffer in silence from rubbing and chafing of their softer parts! Help is at hand thanks to Claire Galer and her innovative company, Derriere Equestrian , who have researched, designed and manufactured a range of extremely comfortable undergarments for the male and female rider. The two main design concepts were to produce a padded brief or shorty incorporating a similar technology to the cycle short and also to produce a minimal seam garment where smoothness and conformity were the key goals. This pathway resulted from intelligent market research, speaking to many riders and finding out exactly what they wanted, coupled with the knowledge that there would not be a single solution to the problem.
Recently launched to the equine trade at SPOGA 2014 in Germany, the Derriere Padded Support System , won the Silver Award in the coveted, new product innovation category. This system has been developed in conjunction with Elastic Interface who are the leading cycle pad manufacturer and are based in Italy. The pad, which is thinner and far less obtrusive than it’s cycling counterpart, is incorporated in either a brief or a shorty for the female and in a boxer design for the male. The result is an extremely comfortable garment which is not visible through breeches and can be worn all day. It provides support in all the right places to prevent rubbing and improve the comfort of any saddle.
The minimal seam pants are unpadded and are woven as a tube so as to produce a smooth garment, made from hi-tech yarns, giving the perfect combination of comfort and stretch. These too are available for both female and male riders.
The third design concept was that the underwear had to look good. We all joke about how we don’t want to be embarrassed by our pants should we unfortunately end up in A&E and Derriere have certainly got this covered. The whole collection is absolutely beautiful, made from high quality fabrics in black, white or purple and finished off with a designer jacquard ?? making them truly a fashion item.
