WITH the aim of promoting the huge need to retrain and re-home more ex-racehorses than is currently possible, the team from The British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre attended the Reaseheath College Family Festival.
Reaching out to people from all walks of life and spreading the word about their invaluable work is the aim of the charity which is fundraising hard to allow them to double the size of their stabling at the Lancashire base.
More than 10,000 people attended the action-packed festival in Cheshire which offered a host of activities and displays to appeal to all ages.
Staff and volunteers from The British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre were on hand to provide advice and information about the work the charity does and all aspects of ex-racehorse retraining.
Spectators also had the chance to see The British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre team in action with a fascinating demonstration with Chief Executive Gillian Carlisle starting the session by providing an insight about the racing industry and explaining about the daily routine of racehorses in training assisted by team member Abbie Lea riding TRC Ellie’s Image.
The Head of Retraining and Rehoming Ines Rathke then went on to discuss the retraining process and show cased the flatwork and jumping skills of TRC Dodge the Bullet ridden by assistant trainer Laura Brailsford.
Said Gillian: “The festival was a great success it was brilliant to meet so many people throughout the day and provide them with information about the charity.
“Without support from the public, it wouldn’t be possible for the centre to help the amount of horses that we do each year.
“The team looked really smart in their new uniform and the demonstration went really well with a lot of interest from visitors.
“The centre is proud to be partners with TopSpec, BEDMAX and Albion Saddlemakers, who provide feed, bedding and tack to keep all our horses healthy and comfortable.
To celebrate the TRC’s 25th anniversary, the charity has launched a unique
nationwide initiative – Ride for Retraining. The campaign is underway to raise a massive £100,000 by riding around the equivalent of the United Kingdom coastline!
The scheme will see horse riders from the length and breadth of Britain taking part and joining forces to tally up the total mileage with a target of 7,723 miles – the distance around Britain's mainland coast.
All money raised will go to building a further 40 stables at the British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre in Lancashire – doubling the size of the current facility with the aim of helping even more of the thousands of racehorses retired from the sport each year.
