After three years of research and development, Wow Saddles launched an industry ‘first’ earlier this year – a truly innovative Saddle Gauge. It will tell you which of the 567 fitting permutations from their modular saddles is right for the horse.
Steff Harrington, competing successfully at Advanced Medium on her 10 year old Hanoverian mare Lorna Doone (Lexi) has been ‘Wowed’ by this new tool.
“My fitter Laura Dempsey did a Wow demo fit to assess what Lexi and I needed, and ordered me a new Wow saddle. When she came to fit it, the new Saddle Gauge had been launched and we used it as part of the fitting process. To Laura’s surprise the gauge said we should use a V headplate rather than a U shape.
We went with what the gauge said and lo and behold Lexi loved it. It allowed her to strengthen even further and lift right up through her back. We now use the gauge regularly to check the headplate, as we think Lexi will be a seasonal horse and will possibly switch between a V and a U depending on the time of year. I will never look back!”
The headplates are the same size (the angles of the wings are identical), but the V profile has a slightly narrower arch. Just like finding a person finding a comfortable shoe, a small change can make all the difference to your horse’s comfort and therefore performance. Find your nearest Wow fitter at http://www.wowsaddles.com/fitter-and-support/, book a demo, and feel the difference for yourself.
