Susannah Boanas and her sister-in-law were the lucky winners of a trip to the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014 in Normandy, donated by Alltech to help raise funds for World Horse Welfare.
The trip was part of an auction at a charity polo day in aid of the charity and the winning bidder was Susannah’s mum, Ann Boanas who is a member of the Chairman’s Circle of the charity.
The prize included tickets to see the Reining competition and the Dressage as well as two nights’ accommodation at The Beach Hotel in Trouville.
From excellent seats in the D’Ornano Stadium in Caen, the pair were thrilled to get to see Charlotte Dujardin and the superstar that is Valegro in the team competition which was also a qualifier for the Grand Prix Special.
“To see Charlotte compete was amazing and it was particularly impressive to see how some of the riders coped with the wet conditions, having to keep concentration in pouring rain,” said Susannah.
“It was also great fun to attend the reining competition and experience something new, seeing the Americans who are at the top of their game was really something special.
“The location of the hotel in the sea-side town of Trouville made a great base to explore Normandy and we got to enjoy a lovely evening’s stroll along the beach,” she added.
“To attend such a large event as the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games was a very different experience to the equestrian events that I have attended in the UK but the organisation was fantastic and everyone was so friendly.”
