Visit the British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre (BTRC) stand in the paddock at the Cartmel Racecourse Cumbria Crystal Cup Day.

Join in the celebration of the BTRC’s 25th anniversary, Britain's original and biggest organisation dedicated to the retraining and rehoming of racehorses for new careers after racing.

Held on Saturday, July 16, the Cumbria Crystal Cup Day is known as the "Barbecue Meeting", thanks to its great social atmosphere combined with a day of top class racing.

This fixture has rapidly established itself as one of the most popular with racegoers, as for the last three years it has featured the most valuable race, the £26,000 totepool Cumbria Crystal Hurdle Race.

Staff and volunteers from The British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre will be on hand to provide advice and information about the work the charity carries out and will show case all aspects of ex-racehorse retraining.

Please help support the charity by giving generously at the bucket collection at each of the exit gates.

To celebrate the BTRC’s 25th anniversary, the charity has launched a unique

nationwide initiative – Ride for Retraining.

The campaign is underway to raise a massive £100,000 by riding around the equivalent of the United Kingdom coastline!

The scheme will see horse riders from the length and breadth of Britain taking part and joining forces to tally up the total mileage with a target of 7,723 miles – the distance around Britain's mainland coast.

All money raised will go to building a further 40 stables at the British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre in Lancashire – doubling the size of the current facility with the aim of helping even more of the thousands of racehorses retired from the sport each year.
